Though most of the characters look the same, however not as bad as BTTH.
BTTTH is completely cheap donghua I think, just change the outfit or create different hairstyles and done, we got another character.
And for your stumble, why does taoist anchestor help the mc?
I don’t know that much about the plot, but based on my observation after following the story, taoist anchestor just want to make his position always sovereign, for his position as Tian or tao anchestor still questioned.

That’s why the downgraded ToH is super selfish and controlling because the ancestor wants things to go his way and not follow the natural course. If he doesn’t like you, you get lightning strikes, death or even erased, depending on his mood.

East Asians prettied up with western features. None of them really looks full East Asian native. For all the bs about “diversity”, only Europeans have a wide range of colours for eyes, hair and skin. Whether people like it or not the rest are all brown, Brown eyes, brown hair, mostly brown skin, and the rest is due to genetic mixing. What else is left is artificial colours, like purple hair, blue, white in young people (to make them look more striking) etc.
Tho they are East Asian Gods, so they prolly can just edit themselves whenever they want to 😂

I saw one episode of this donghua and dropped it. Then months later magnate started promoting this one and the persistence of that promotion made me give it another go
binged watch it and enjoyed it. then when it got to weekly update, i started losing sense of it. characters looked quite identical. except for the main characters, when they are referring to someone, i have absolutely no clue who that character is. i feel completely lost for some bits and i try not to think about it. i tell myself “when that character shows up, you will know whats up. just for now ignore what they said in that character’s absence” lmao
been doing it for sometime now but today i have no idea who these people were. where did i see them before. i guess this donghua is best understood when binge watched because these many identical looking characters with confusing names are hard to remember when you only hear them once a week
