However, I can’t stand people who don’t make an effort to save themselves or expect others to take care of them without doing anything to help themselves. What I find most frustrating is weaponized helplessness, often seen in narcissistic Ingénue playing the victim. Instead of making direct demands, they drop hints or act helpless, compelling others to feel the need to “save” them or provide validation.
I’m not victim-blaming; she would need to be a victim first. Yes, her father is an awful person, but she isn’t completely innocent either. I don’t even know what betrayal she’ll do to the MC. She gives off vibes that I really dislike. Those are the types of people I can’t stand.
In this context, by asking Linley, “Will you protect me forever?” She effectively achieved two things:

The second a character drops the “Will you protect me forever?” line—especially early on when they haven’t actually earned that kind of lifelong devotion—it is a massive, flashing red flag (to me). Because their entire survival strategy relies on being “saved,” their loyalty isn’t to anyone—it’s to whoever offers the biggest rescue package or the path of least resistance. The second the MC requires them to be strong or make a sacrifice, they’ll sell the MC out to protect their victim status.
They better give a good reason to dislike her then! I’m shipping them till she’s proven extremely evil! 😤
