Having the main character collect a bunch of women isn’t good storytelling—it’s a cheap marketing trick to hook readers. It hooks a specific demographic by promising constant validation and titillation without requiring the writer to pen actual, compelling romantic dynamics.
The female characters stop feeling like real people with feelings and turn into interchangeable trophies whose only job is to stroke the protagonist’s ego.
Instead of making the main character look cool, it often makes him look obnoxious and selfish, completely killing any emotional stakes or genuine tension in the plot.

Non-existent… bullsh, char development? Zero… and Main villain? probably the MC’s own harem at this point. When I came for the cultivation and revenge at the beginning it was actually pretty darn good… but now what Im getting is a dating sim with martial arts as a side quest. The MC got reincarnated just to become a walking marriage counselor. Just so Pathetic maan… it’s annoying af already, it was in my faves for God sake! This isn’t an donghua anymore, it’s a harem simulator with 500+ filler episodes and zero payoff, If you r defending this, I genuinely feel sorry for yall taste. Absolute waste of time nowadays…

Not really constructive criticism, honestly. Most of what you’re complaining about seems to come down to the fact that you simply don’t like the True Harem and romance aspects of the story.
This story has always been about True Harem dynamics and romance, so if anything, I would say they could go even harder on that aspect. (Though Chinese censorship might be toning down proper grow of characters and romance in these kinds of stories..)
He is also currently at a realm where it takes hundreds of years just to break through a minor layer. Instead of constantly skipping through those periods and rushing straight toward the revenge, the donghua is actually taking the time to show more of the story, the characters, and their relationships.
That’s not “filler” just because it isn’t nonstop fighting (like some of the other shows on here).
The villains are quite clear from the beginning, but there isn’t just “one main villain.” It’s not your classic “good vs. evil, happily ever after.” There are people, intrigues, and whole sects that need to be dealt with..
I’ve also seen people complain about the female characters, but they are in a very unique circumstance, with a unique man, and they are immortal Taoists – essentially gods in both body and mind. Of course, they wouldn’t act like your average Western women – They actually respect and love the main character.
This is my number-one donghua (and I do watch RMJI), and I’m genuinely very happy whenever I watch it. I’m also perfectly happy with my taste and with what I’m watching, so there’s really no need to feel sorry for me. If anything, I think you may simply be watching the wrong donghua for what you want. So I can only feel sorry for you.
You can always go watch some of the more battle-focused donghua on this site instead of skipping through this one – which I assume you did, considering you somehow missed that we’re getting quite close to defeating Lingxia.
And there are still many more arcs even after the revenge. So I’m genuinely telling you: your little heart might not be able to handle another hundred-plus episodes. :))
Agree. Also every other donghua that avoids harems just ends up with girls who want the mc but never get them through some bittersweet unrequired love bullshit. And people see that and think, “wow, such great writing” when it’s really just shit. This donghua isn’t a masterpiece to me, and certainly not my #1, but I do enjoy that this is primarily about waifu collecting. In chinese donghua where they even censor kisses, this is rare.
My only complaint is how once he gets a new girl, the old ones get almost no screen time. I’ve literally forgotten who a few of these girls even are that showed up here. That’s obviously because this is a 7minute donghua, so they can’t be wasting too much time on everyone. It’s completely understandable.
Great episode! I would love to see more harem dynamics, but I guess they (think) they can’t go too far, due to self-censorship and not wanting to risk getting fined or cancelled.
We should also be getting close to defeating Lingxia.. :)))
Though, they could have put a little bit more emotion into the reunion and made the other wives appear a lot more.
