Xu Ying (许应) from the donghua A Good Day to Ascend / 择日飞升 (Ze Ri Fei Sheng) has an origin far more complicated than what we initially see in the story.
Major novel spoilers:

• At the beginning, Xu Ying appears to be an orphaned snake catcher from Lingling, Yongzhou. He is not actually the biological child of the family that raised him; his grandfather found him after the fire at Xujiaping (许家坪).
• Xu Ying has actually been alive for tens of thousands of years. His body, cultivation, and most importantly, his memories were sealed, causing him to repeatedly live new lives while losing all memory of his past.
• Around 48,000 years before the main story, he once attempted to overcome the Heavenly Tribulation and ascend to the Immortal Realm. His tribulation became extraordinarily powerful and eventually led to a conflict with the Immortal Realm. He even destroyed the path of ascension, the Heavenly Road, and killed many immortals who were sent to deal with him.
• After being defeated, Xu Ying was sealed and cast back into the lower realm, where his existence continued to be monitored. This is one of the reasons he later became known as the mysterious “Undying Immortal / 不老神仙.”
• Because Xu Ying possesses an indestructible, undying true spirit, the death of his physical body does not truly end his existence. He repeatedly reappears throughout different periods of history.
• During his previous lives, he lived during the Shang Dynasty, experienced the tragedy of the Battle of Changping, knew Ying Zheng/Qin Shi Huang (祖龙) when he was still young, and later became involved in the search for the elixir of immortality.
• His true family identity is eventually revealed as well. According to summaries of the novel, his biological father is Xu Jing (许靖) and his mother is Lan Suying (兰素英).

So, in simple terms:
The Xu Ying we initially meet as a snake catcher → this is not his first life → he is an ancient being/cultivator who has existed for tens of thousands of years → he once fought against the Immortal Realm → he was defeated and sealed → he repeatedly reappeared throughout history with his memories erased → he gradually breaks the seals and discovers his true identity and past.
This also explains why the Taiyi Guidance Technique (太一导引功), which he vaguely remembers from the very beginning, turns out to be far more than just an ordinary breathing technique. After the Xujiaping fire, most of his memories were lost, but this technique somehow remained within his memory.

Aside from it feeling like we all missed a bunch. The start of this episode was funny, Yuanqi teasing the bear, then bonding over getting beat up by XY and loving to read stories, so silly. XY giggling that his stone crushing palm scares them both.

How pissed was that panda hahah. She was ready to beat them in her little belly shirt [underwear].

Bear is Qianli, I guess. Given what they know of the world and the lack of insight on Cultivators. It makes sense that everyone would think he is a demon in human shape type. They didnt even understand when they freed that Cultivator under Bell, and he hasnt exactly explained the past to them.

Either way given what we seen here, and the LN [spoilers] in the comments [don’t read them if you dont want to know, its your own fault], we know that their is more to this world than the split of techniques and the generally barely First Step [in how most of us here probably understand cultivation] realms this world is in.
