yeah, Renegade Immortal has mostly kept their fights progressing and looking more and more powerful, though lately even that one has gotten a tad stale – but even with RI the “staleness” has only really lasted for maybe half a dozen episodes, whereas BTTH has been stale for multiple seasons at this point. There has been a bit of progression in the last 10 or so episodes, but it has been minimal for the most part, and the flow of the fights has meant that it has remained boring even with the increase in power scaling.

Every week, we still wait for the next episode. We complain and criticize, but not because we dislike it—rather, it’s because our affection and expectations for this series are so high.
In my opinion, in terms of visuals and storyline, Battle Through the Heavens (BTTH) is actually not that bad. However, what makes the series feel stiff is the lack of social dynamics between the characters. Everyone seems isolated—there’s little warmth in their interactions, as if they don’t truly know each other.
If I were to use an analogy, it’s like watching a film with actors who lack strong acting skills. The story might be good, the cinematography might be beautiful, but if the acting feels flat, the film will feel lifeless. The same applies here. It’s not really about whether the adaptation follows the original novel closely or not—it’s about how the “acting” of the characters feels unconvincing and lacks vitality.
The comic version is also slightly different from the novel, yet I genuinely enjoy it. Why? Because the interactions between the characters feel alive. There is dynamic tension, expression, and chemistry—even though they are just still images. That’s what makes the world and the relationships between the characters feel truly alive.
If the producers chose a more family-friendly direction or made some changes from the original novel, that’s not the issue. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the donghua’s story. The problem lies in the lack of character interaction, which makes everything feel bland. If you pay attention, most scenes consist of just two characters exchanging dialogue with background music added for dramatic effect, without richer social dynamics to truly bring the world to life.

I kinda liked it, past tense. Now I’m just curious about the ending. That’s all that keeps me going. It was a struggle to get through this episode, I ended up skipping parts of it. I don’t care about it anymore, I just want to know how it ends and then forget about it. This isn’t even “purist” talk, I don’t even know its source material, I couldn’t care less about how much it deviates from that. What I do care about is how incredibly fucking bland and repetitive this show has become. I’m sick and tired of this hall of souls, they’re some of the most soulless (no pun intended) antagonists ever. They would’ve worked as a minor group of villains, but they keep coming back like a swallowed burp, and it’s just more of the same slop. It’s tiresome.
