I think I may go read the novel instead because as you said the pacing is a bit slow in this part and its frustrating when you consider this is nearly the last episode of this season. The only reason I can think they did this is to move Shi Mu’s association/knowledge with the barbarian’s forward in the plot line so that he can address the issue with the Stone Monkey bloodline.

She’s jealous of the fact that the MC prefers and is actively pursuing her “sister.” She was already mad that he rejected her yet tried to cover by saying “he’s lucky he didn’t hesitate to reject her.” She goes to find him when she’s bored because it annoys her that he doesn’t find her desirable nor fear her enough to back down from his declaration.

This is actually the first time in a while I’ve seen a donghua give a female character this amount of depth in her motivations and actions though I can see by these comments most people don’t understand what’s happening and simply see her as annoying, which she is. However its incredibly tiresome to continue seeing it happen and her threats and aggressive behavior towards him.

I also like Senior Brother Zhao! He’s flamboyantly effiminent as you said while presenting in a masculine body. This is another aspect that appears to be confusing people in these comments enough to misgender him or call him “weird” which I find disgusting. Queer characters in this medium should be present because they are present IRL. I actually felt bad for Zhao because he was trying to diffuse the fight before it happened in part because I do think he’s very fond of Shi Mu. He’s also one of the few characters that has a clear assessment of his strength and how much power he’s hiding.

It clearly isn’t a “bit” because he doesn’t break the voice even when he is kicked by that raging disciple. A lot of you clearly have no experience of knowledge of effeminate masculine presenting men. They exist especially in queer spaces. Misgendering him is also bang out. It’s not like he ever expressed that he’s trans. The maturity level and ability to use nuance is as usual is lacking in these spaces.
