Well, a good movie but too much time and space stuffs cracked my head. This is probably about the past from the current Shi Hao. The willow tree we’re seeing in current meta is probably the broken form of the immortal emperor height she attained in the past. But quite confusing, the movie is quite shallow on timescale and characters explanation. Who is that corpse emperor? Why is he chasing Huang like a time patrol? Huang is still half emperor, does that mean corpse emperor is still a superior being than Huang in the future? And I presume our current Huang will become stronger than ever and start timeline cleansing? Too much stuffs going on with no explanation yet. And in that last edgest of the edge of death, willow rosed into Immortal Emperor like with the power of friendship from naruto? Hmmm….even if both are overwhelming to look at, swallowed stars movie was quite easier to understand and connect.

There’s no naruto, Kun di proved his dao by slaugthering in order to reach half immortal emperor Liu Shen counter it by proving her own dao of protection and then she reached half immortal emperor and also nirvana and made Kun di run for his life in the river of time where Huang was waiting for him. There’s a lot of things I loved about this movie and the first is seeing Shi Hao and Liu Shen fight side by side and him caring for her, shii made smile fr..
Then we got to see almost every legends mentioned in the past and in the current series (I’ve always wanted to see samsara immortal king and wuzhong immortal king together, also finally seeing true Phoenix, Fairy Yue Chen, immortal Buddha and even Ox king )
We also saw Wang, Feng and Jin ancestors and as usual they’re cowards and didn’t want to fight, we also saw the past immortal ancient geniuses Huang met during his journey to the imperial pass.
Lol he always funny even when facing immortal king tribulation😭( he had to lie so it won’t affect Liu shen).
Guess they didn’t get to show us the true immortal domain cause it’s not important in the movie but we at least saw a lil glimpse of it.

Tho the translation when Kun Di appeared in the last phase of the movie, it was written Quasi immortal emperor. He hasn’t yet stepped into that realm as Shi hao immediately said “Once he proves his dao he can finally enter Quasi immortal emperor realm” . Which he later didn’t achieve .
If he had achieved it the entire realm would have shattered cause we can see Shi hao’s contemplating if he should manifest his true own true body to but can’t use the whole universe( not PW entire cosmology but the 9H&10E universe) can’t bear the power and karma
We can see Xu imperial family with the blood soaked banner and how it became an Immortal treasure ( by carrying the bodies of Wuzhong and samsara immortal king and absorbing their immortal king blood) and how Gu clan ancestor betrayed his side.

I believe there’s no other novel that can surpass the vastness and the power level of Chen Dong’s trilogy world, not even Swallowed Stars. In the boundary sea, like you said, one drop of water is one damn fking universe and I remember even SH needs thousands of years travelling on the realm sea with his quasi emperor power.

Solid 5/10 rating, and thats for last 5 mins of movie, rest 2/10.
after finally watching this movie and understand plus learning some info from the chapgpt to formalating all this stuff, we can see that the movie is awesome as for stating to be cannon or not from all these talk. my understanding is that the future shi hao went back to the era of liu shen time, but the whole movies is like one big info dump plot for the series to know what really went down. so future shi hao have that dreamscape/manefestation type of time travel to see how things went down in history since he was part of it from that. but the production of the perfect world just wanted to broad the horizon to this and fill in the missing gap of things that couldnt be said or left out in the book that was un-resolved so they would do this type of thing now for those missing character. i do see people talking about prequel but this shi hao is just future shi hao we will see in the future series. probably near the era of after the foreign arc but it good to see those famous people that shi hao saw and able to fight together. its was wild. but it seem that shi hao in the future is going to be super OP for sure. able to do damage. however, seeing my waifu Liu shen in the making just made my day high light the whole thing especially her entering the emperor state. what crazy is her dao, she was like talking in the end like in biblical state if you see me you see the father. im everywhere that was some wild stuff. impressive speech. but i still going to missed her and hope she be see more of her.

What is especially interesting is that the movie appears to use Shi Hao’s time-traveling ability to turn him into a witness and participant in events that, in the novel, we only knew about as historical events. Damn.. what a masterpiece! I’ve enjoyed it tremendously. Did it reach my expectation? Yes, but I’ve to be honest, it’s still missing a tiny bit somehow. Otherwise, it would have been truly perfect.
Okay, let me just explain (or add on to what @Babyblck has said). I’ll try to shorten everything into point forms, perhaps it would be easier to grasp for everyone. Also, I will differentiate the two terms to make it easier for you guys to understand which faction they represent: Immortal, Immortal Kings..etc -> from 9H10E. Undying, Undying King -> Foreign Realm. The subtitles didn’t make a difference here but in actual fact, they use “xian” = immortals, for the good guy faction and “bu xiu” = undying, for the baddies.
1.) Is this movie close to canon? Yes, very much. In fact, more than I’ve expected.
2.) And why or how is it related?
3.) What’s with this blood sacrifice? The Dark Quasi Undying Emperors (yes, over time it grew to 4 quasi emperors) demand blood sacrifice, so that they could go to the Corpse Emperor and get fragments of his power. With every bit of power from this Corpse Emperor, they believe they would one day break into the Emperor realm.
4.) Is that how the characters featured in this film die? Yes and no. In fact, I’m missing Kun Peng and Heavenly Horned Ant. I know Kun Peng survives the battle but she’s later ambushed by some evil Immortals, namely Immortal Bronze Palace founder and his clique. And Heavenly Horned Ant died in Great Scarlet Heaven. In the movie, it’s mentioned one immortal king is killed by Anlan (somewhere around 37:00++ and that must be Heavenly Horned Ant). The only thing that’s different here is of course the intervention of Corpse Emperor. In the novel, it just says they all perished during the Great War. Here, Kun Di supposedly got a power boost from Corpse Emperor.
5.) What’s with this Heavenly Abyss? It’s like a natural barrier formed by Dao laws that separate the unbroken 9H10E from the foreign realm.
6.) Can Willow Goddess sacrifice really mend the Heavenly Abyss? Technically yes. Though, this is non-canon but it’s mentioned in the novel, the inhabitants of the old “Imperial City” (where the Sin Clan Kings guarded the border) sacrifice themselves to protect the Abyss when An Lan and other Undying Kings want to cross the border. This arc will come later after Shi Hao escapes from the foreign realm.
7.) How did SH cross the river of time and how the so-called Corpse Emperor did it easier than SH? Technically, both never cross the river of time and space. Their thoughts and their blood did. In the novel, The Corpse Emperor actually got rebounded by Karma when he tried to use the River of Time to search for SH. So, even a Heavenly Emperor cannot escape from its Karma. SH uses his Transformation Embodiment of All Ages technique to get to Willow Goddess. This ability allows him to transform to anyone/anything that has ever existed. This drop of blood method has already appeared in the donghua. Remember, SH got it when he found the Witch buried in the soil? So, the movie is just reusing this idea from the novel but it works perfectly.
8.) The power level difference: I think @Babyblck explained it very neatly in one of the comments, so I won’t repeat. Willow Goddess is an Immortal King Giant which means she has surpassed the ordinary Immortal King. Above this level is the Quasi Immortal Emperor before reaching the apex that is the Heavenly Emperor. All others are only Immortal Kings. Kun Di is also an Undying King Giant but I believe the rest are just Undying Kings. SH is a Quasi Immortal Emperor. But he’s not just any quasi emperor, he (at the timeline featured in the film) should have already slaughtered 4 Quasi Undying Emperors. He’s just missing the last step into the Emperor realm. Oh.. one last trivia: The coward Wang, Jin and Feng are just Immortals. They’re not Immortal Kings. And Fairy Qingyue is the origin of Yue Chan and Qing Yi.
9.) Why they call SH Heavenly Emperor when he’s just a Quasi Immortal Emperor? This title was given to SH after he slaughtered the 4 quasi undying emperors. I mean… be serious, it’s one vs four and this battle lasted 20 000 years or is it more? I can’t recall specifically. Strictly speaking, he’s already beyond the quasi immortal emperor, just missing that final step.
My conclusion: The logic of the film is actually very tight and plausible unlike… ahem the previous failed movie. Sorry, no one can convince me to like it, just as nothing could convince me to like that fire girl.
Flaws: The action and fight scenes are still a little all over the place. A tad too dazzling with too much focus on laser light effect. It can get confusing and tiring to watch when your eyes have to track each movement back and forth. They could have explained a bit more in depth especially when it comes to the refinement process of that Origin Artifact but then again, I know too much talking/dialogue would actually break the immersion and flow. I’ve read the novel, so naturally I’m fine with the movie version though I can understand why some people might get confused.

Best scene: The great Heavenly Emperor Huang walks on the river of stars, claiming to sever the chaos and restore the order, followed by the ultimate lines: One step one epoch; One thought defines eternity and One word, heaven and earth obey. 👍👍👍

The Ancient Temple shown in the beginning of the movie where Liu Shen entered is just a single tiny temple of the immortal domain, the fight took place in the first floor.( in chapters 1775 the novel explicitly describes Immortal Kings having dozens of cosmos stacked in a corner of a temple and is used as hunting grounds.
As usual when a supreme being or true immortal dies, the heavens will weep and the earth will sob ( as we saw with Ge Mu’s death). The battle took place in the desolate border close to imperial pass which is where Shi Hao got betrayed. (It’s said that the blood of true immortal and immortal kings have soaked the land for years making it highly dense and unbreakable in the current era.
Second under heaven also appeared here during the council meeting, if ya’ll remember he is the giant dragon bound by chains, Shi hao met in the heavenly beast forest.( You can see his true body as large as a great star and his tail wrapping around one).
