I don’t know why people hate on soul tools, to me they are very cool. Also the way it was used here makes lots of sense.
Everyone claimed it made them overpowered but they forget tang san literally used poisoned needles to kill level 80. At least for soul tools you need to have soul power to use them.
im not sure if my reasons are same, although i dont hate it, but i dont like it that much. soul land 1 was natural soul skills, also in the end how strong they are eventually it will still depends on soul skills eventually. That why you see all the gods they dont use mechanical but just their skills are able to deal devastating damage to the people.
Actually here it’s not about whether you like it or not.you have to understand that it was a natural course of action. Let me brief the history a bit and it might become more acceptable to you.(i read long ago so i might make small mistakes).
First there was the douluo continent which you already know, people born in this continent had genetical advantage in terms of cultivation, so soul master profession was the major focus here(which you already know).
Then roughly around 4000 years before Sl2 (i forgot the actual year), a new continent that was floating, suddenly crashed on douluo continent due to tectonic movement or something (i forgot).
That continent was called sunmoon continent. people born there were not genetically suitable for cultivation compared to douluo continent. So they found a new path. They focused all the efforts on technology and invented soul tools. becoming a soul master there was just because they needed fuel for the techs. So they used external means (elixirs) to increase their cultivation because cultivation was still needed if a person wanted to advance in your soul engineer rank.(You can’t become a rank 9 soul engineer if you are not a titled douluo even if you learn all the knowledge a rank 9 soul engineer must know. because you cant sustain those formation carvings.)
Now that those two continents became one, conflict was inevitable.(Which is a natural course). And they almost beat the douluo continent, but got their ass handed to them when shreck academy joined the war and they encountered limit douluos.It was also because of this war that many in douluo continent saw the soul tools potential in war, and as a result, tang sects illustrious fame got busted along with their business.
So at the end of the day both continent utilized their advantage, and evolved in their own way.

The problem is, the empire uses Soul Tools because they can’t produce high level Soul Masters or Daluos. So they need to rely on this technology.
And with relying on it, they become over reliant and their soul mastery degrades even further. Its a death spiral.
For comparison reasons, replace Soul Power with Magic. And now you have a civilization that degrades in Magic Power because they use more and more technology instead.
At some point, no one can use Magic anymore. Or so little, that buying a lighter for 10 cents is more efficient to ignite the stove than you using fire magic, and less exhausting on top.
At the end of a Millennia or two, they are all just normal humans now.
This is a serious problem for the future narrative of a show. There are now 5 Soul Land Novels. But this can lead to massive retcon or logic holes, probably already happened. Neither is good for the franchise.

A few people help me by reporting inappropriate comments directly to me, and once they do, I remove them completely. Checking every comment individually would be extremely difficult, especially with the limitations of the current comment system 🙁
