This show is based on a book so you can’t blame the animators for really anything, and the suggestions you provided are already explained in the story as to why they wouldn’t work.

Da Ming and Er Ming were sent by Tang San to guard the Clear Sky Sect. They might have not explained this in the Donghua, but in the novel the Clear Sky Sect had not been seen on the continent for over 1000 years, which is also why everyone was so shocked the first time Wutong used the Clear Sky Hammer during the competitions.
So maybe know what you’re talking about and pay attention to the story before making silly comments like this.
