im surprised the devilbane lightning is even mentioned this much in this lower realm.. devils are practically extinct since the war long ago…(whens they came down from the upper realms and damaged the origin qi from the battle that took place!).
in fact the only devil i remember is the one in devilfall valley.
i do remember something about outside actors coming to absorb the fallen souls from the battlefield… but i dont specifically remember them being from the jin empire…

It’s an issue of inconsistent translation, mostly, but it’s the sort of thing that won’t be fixed unless more stuff is released with professional, polished translations that are intentionally consistent.
So in the novel… demon is specifically used for any monster beasts period! Regardless of their cultivation!
now devil dao or devil practitioners are a rare breed!
in most cases they refer to those who arent apart of the righteous dao sects
but are apart of the devil dao… but actual devil practitioners are incredible rare!
in fact ! Most are simply considered evil practitioners who cultivate yin cultivation arts instead of yang!
as an example the zenith yin arts arent actually a devil dao technique. Its a profound yin evil cultivation art!
they get more into it in the novel! Those who cultivation any yin arts are actually susceptible to devils and those who cultivate devil dao cultivation techniques.
to sum it all up… they call it the righteous and devil dao sects because that is what both sects aspire to be. In truth even the righteous dao sects are incredible ruthless and even evil in some cases like how they portrayed them in the scattered star seas!
as for evil cultivators or those who cultivate yin arts… they aspire to practice devil techniques and later on in the higher realm… they actually aspire to become true devils!
as an example. Everyone likes zi ling right?
in the future she will actually learn she has a special physique. And it will let her practice devil arts way more effectively than cultivating yang arts or even any yin arts.
because of this she and han li will have some drama in the future when they ascend to the immortal realm.

true devil= actual devils or those who cultivate actual devil dao techniques.

in the old times… way back in the past… devils taught monster beasts how to cultivate… so they adjusted their own true devils cultivation arts to be suitable for demon beasts to cultivate. Which is why later on han li learns why demon beasts cultivation arts are so similar to true devil techniques. He even finds techniques that originated from true devil arts and adjusted to become demon beast cultivation arts. (Provenance technique)
he will ultimately adjust a true devils dao cultivation technique that was recreated for demon beasts to cultivate. And turn it into a cultivation art that humans can cultivate!
Also. Devilbane lightning is an extremely old subject! No one even truly knows about devilbane lightning or what it is or truly used for. In fact this entire lower realm just knows its rare and has a profound impact against yin arts/ghost arts/evil arts/devil arts.
Han li is actually using the lightning to control the cold flames he acquired from the heavenvoid cauldron !
that flame would freeze and melt his entire body and soul if it wasnt for the devilbane lightning he has! He is currently refining it bit by bit. The process is extremely slow! But he suppresses it with his devilbane lightning as shown in a few episodes ago.

you can be a evil cultivator and not cultivate yin… lets say for example you cultivate blood techniques… in many cases blood is compared with vitality and even a yang attribute !
cultivating yin is considered different… this is where actual cultivators.. regardless of whether they are evil or not can embark on the path of devilhood…
for an example.. a soul cultivator isnt a yang cultivator..
yang is considered vitality /blood / heat / energy…
cultivating yin attribute techniques can be a soul cultivator /ghost dao cultivator or even an ice attribute cultivator…
yin is considered dark-shadow / cold / the unseen nether / the soul / or even the lack of vibrant energy…
when one cultivates yin instead of yang in a lower realm… they ascend to the devil realm instead of the immortal realm ! this is a fundamental law in this story lore!
now to get into devilhood!
cultivating yin is considered the starting path of becoming a devil!
devils do not cultivate yin! they cultivate devil qi! or to be even more exact they cultivate True Devil Qi…
if a true devil or a true devil dao cultivator comes into contact with yin energy or a yin attribute cultivator…the yin energy/cultivator is practically food for them or even completely harmless to the devils! true devil qi simply devours yin energy…
to further the understanding in this lore… there are spirit stones that have the 5 elements within them. if im not mistaken…yin cultivators can still use spirit stones just like yang cultivators!
there are also devil stones! these contain True Devil QI and are completely different from spirit stones!
in other words … yin and yang cultivators.. cultivators of the 5 elements… Buddhists / Taoists / Confucians …they are all in a similar category! regardless if they are considered evil cultivators or righteous cultivators….
but for this story lore.. they consider evil cultivators apart of the devil dao sects because they aspire to ascend to the Devil realm instead of the Immortal realm!
actually ascending from this broken small realm is a whole different story though lol

I absolutely love this anime + RI and MM. what i dont like about this show is that…. its the pace is too slow(1 episode per week). I mean we have great equipment and workforce in 2026. At 1 episode per week, id prolly be 50years before this donghua reaches conclusion and its sad.Samething with MM started airing in 2020 and we still at 1k+ chapter and the novel has over 6k chapters. We already have equipment for them to switfch to normal donghua and airing 2 episodes per week.At this rate, i might be 50 years old before this donghua is finished
i agree the pace is slow… but its something to look forward to…if you consider all the cultivation stages of the first novel… we are actually almost finished with all the cultivaion levels …
