Yeah the source material has been penned as one of China’s equivalent of top tier historical seinens (I.e. Blade of The Immortal or Berserk), but unfortunately this episode seems to have a mixed bag of animation from impeccable execution to meh and weird
It’s like there’s either a lack of quality control between sequences or parts seems like a rushed job in comparison to other parts
This is compared to other 2D & 3D donghuas and animes, kinda jarring with the inconsistency
Season 1 took like 4 years to make; it was originally supposed to take around 2, but the intricate hand-drawing put them WAY behind schedule and ended up costing them a LOT of extra money. Some of the scenes here are obviously hand-drawn as well, but they are not as intricately detailed as Season 1 was, and it hasn’t been all that long since Season 1 released, so I assume this is a mixture of more roughly done hand drawings and a bunch of modern computer assisted 2D animation, which is why it looks so goofy. I wish they would have waited and kept up the quality from Season 1, but it seems someone at the top either didn’t want to wait so long, didn’t want to spend so much money, or both.
Season 1 was absolutely amazing; probably some of the best animation ever to be broadcast. Season 2 is nowhere near its equal.

yeah, in S1 I always assumed it was his own kid; it’s crazy to find out the kid is actually a prince and he killed all his compatriots to save him.
Master piece
Season 1 was a masterpiece, packed with intricate hand-drawn cells and taking 4 years to make; this season is a weird mix of roughly sketched hand-drawn cells and computer aided 2D and was finished in a year – definitely NOT the masterpiece that S1 was.
